SteigenSteigen

Engineered, Not Just Knitted

Every blister needs two ingredients: friction and moisture. Something moves against your skin, sweat softens that skin, and soft skin slides until it breaks. Most “blister-free” socks attack the symptom with padding. Steigen was built the other way around — remove the friction and the moisture, and the blister never gets to exist.

Material Is The Whole Game

There is no cotton, wool, or bamboo in any Steigen sock — not as a preference, but as a rule. Those fibres hold moisture against the skin. Once a foot is damp, the skin softens, the sock starts to move, and a friction point that was harmless at kilometre two is a blister by kilometre ten.

Instead, every pair is 80% microfiber nylon and 20% Lycra. The microfiber moves sweat away from the skin and dries fast enough that the foot never stays wet. The Lycra gives the sock its form fit — it stretches with the foot and recovers, so the fabric stays planted instead of wrinkling and folding under load. Dry skin, planted fabric: the two conditions a blister can't survive.

Anatomy Of The Sock

  • Reinforced Lycra band

Locks the sock around the arch so it can't slip — and a sock that can't slip can't rub.

  • Y-shaped heel

Keeps the heel pocket exactly where your heel is, stride after stride, instead of drifting under load.

  • Super-flat toe seam

Removes the classic toe-blister pressure point most socks knit right into the fabric.

  • Forefoot pad

Comfort and durability where the foot actually strikes, without adding bulk that changes shoe fit.

  • Airflow top mesh

Ventilation across the top of the foot, where heat builds fastest on long efforts.

  • Ankle-crease reduction channels

The fabric folds where your ankle folds — no bunching at the flex point.

  • Arch support

Structure through the midfoot, so the sock works with your foot instead of floating on it.

One size fits most (US 5–12) isn't a compromise — it's a consequence of the Lycra construction, which conforms to the foot rather than approximating it. Feet outside that range get their own builds: Big Foot sizing for US 12+, and Kids sizing for US 1–6, with the same construction in both.

Built From The Start Line

Steigen was founded by Louis Rowan, an Australian representative athlete who competed at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The engineering above isn't theory from a fabric lab — it's the answer to a problem he lived with on the start line, refined with the best materials he could source from around the world. Whatever the shape of your foot or the length of your run, the goal hasn't changed since day one: build the sock that gets out of the way.
